Stained Glass

Pentecost Sunday - May 10-11, 2008

We look to the scriptures to find the meaning of this great feast – the presence of the Holy Spirit in God’s people and His Church: The Spirit is UNIFYING, “It Holds all things together.” (Wisdom 1:7)  The Spirit is LIFE-GIVING, “The breath of God-Creator over the waters.” (Genesis 1,11)  The Spirit is STRENGTH and INSPIRATION: The apostles made “Bold proclamations as the Spirit prompted them.” (Acts 2:4) Can we celebrate the presence of the Spirit in our personal lives, in our family life, in the life of the parish community?  The answer is “YES” – if we find present there the signs of the Spirit: unity, life and strength.

Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet Cards

Mother’s Day Spiritual Bouquet Cards are still available on the tables around the inside of the Church. These cards are wonderful for remembering mothers everywhere – living or deceased.  It is a great opportunity to have them remembered during Mass in our Church on Mother’s Day and throughout the month of May.  Please drop the completed return envelope in the collection basket TODAY or take it to the Parish Office as soon as possible.

“A Saint for Mothers and Mothers-To Be – St. Gianna Beretta Molla, canonized in 2004 by Pope John Paul II, is a saint for modern times.  A young physician who continued to work even while raising young children, Gianna gave her life during child-birth so that her baby would live.  Since her death, women have sought her intercession to help them conceive as well as to help them balance the demands of modern motherhood.  A shrine honoring this saint is maintained in Warminster, Pennsylvania.   For information, visit www.saintgianna.org or call (215) 333-0145.”                                                                                                                                                                               [May 2008 Catholic Digest]

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

Your Will Or The States?

If you don’t have a will or living trust, the State has one for you!  The State will tell you where your savings, home and possessions (your estate) will go.  If you do have a will or trust, you direct where your estate will go.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call the Development Office @ 983-0245, or write to them at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite 301, Santa Clara, CA 95050.

Power Lab Vacation Bible School, during the week of July 21st-25th, (kindergarten through 6th grade) will give our children a new enthusiasm for God’s Word – and for Jesus!  We will engage the children with fun, and science-minded surprises; they’ll see amazing things happen. They’ll see that Jesus gives them the power to be thankful; help others; be brave; live forever; and tell others about God. For more information, or to help, contact the Catechetical Ministry Office @ 251-0154.

In Our Prayers

Please pray for Deacon Tinh Dang, who will be ordained to the priesthood on Saturday, May 24th, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral by Bishop Patrick J. McGrath.  Also, continue to pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life! For more information regarding vocations, please go to http://www.dsj.org/dsj/vocations.asp .

VOCATION PRAYER: Jesus, we ask you to bless our parish and all those living their commitment to You as married couples, singles, sisters, priests, deacons and brothers.  We pray that our young people may know their vocation and respond with enthusiasm and generosity of spirit.  Increase the faith life of our parish and strengthen our family life.  Bless our parish with many vocations.  Grant Lord, that faithfully sharing Your Mission in this life, we may come together to share Your eternal life in heaven. Amen.
