PETER’S PENCE 2008 COLLECTION FOR THE WORKS OF THE HOLY FATHER

Today our parish participates in the Peter’s Pence 2008 Collection for the Works of the Holy Father.  Each year the Holy Father asks us to help him provide for our neediest brothers and sisters throughout the world – those who suffer due to war, oppression and natural disasters.  Join the Holy Father in this act of justice and kindness.  Please pray for the Holy Father and give generously to this special appeal.  Extra envelopes are available in the pews.

SUMMER REMINDER TO OUR ALTAR SERVERS

If you are an altar server and scheduled to serve at Mass, you are expected at the altar to assist at that Mass.  Whether it is a weekday or Sunday Mass, we need you.  When you get your schedules from Mrs. Denzel, put the dates and times on your calendars.  If you are unable to serve, please switch with another server or try to find a substitute.  [The weekly reminder call from the Rectory Office is made only as a courtesy to you.]  Parents are asked to aid their children in fulfilling this service.  We sincerely THANK those who serve faithfully and help fill-in when needed.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

A Charitable Trust Can Increase your Income!

The IRS allows you to use a charitable trust to increase your income and reduce your taxes.  The trust is especially useful for highly appreciated assets (real estate or securities).  The trust can also be used to help loved ones with income after you have gone, but keep the principal from being spent unwisely.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168 or write to him at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite 301, Santa Clara, CA 95050.

Save the Date!  See Today’s Bulletin Insert!

Please join us as we say THANK YOU and offer our BEST WISHES to Father Lieu Vu after all Masses on Sunday, June 29th, in the parish hall. We appreciate his service as vicar with us over the past two years.

Power Lab Vacation Bible School, during the week of July 21st-25th, (kindergarten through 6th grade) will give our children a new enthusiasm for God’s Word – and for Jesus!  We will engage the children with fun, and science-minded surprises; they’ll see amazing things happen. They’ll see that Jesus gives them the power to be thankful; help others; be brave; live forever; and tell others about God. For more information, or to help, contact Vickie Reed  251-0154.  {DEADLINE for registration is this Monday, June 23rd, as we need to order the supplies.}

Do You Have What We Need For Our Hyperspeed Games?  Please check your homes, we need 5 each of child-sized wading pools, hula hoops, buckets, splash balls, hairdryers, ping-pong balls, beach balls, long dowels or broomsticks and leaf blowers, 15 spray bottles and 30 pool “noodles.”  Items may be dropped off at the Rectory Office Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M.-8:00 P.M.  If you would like your item(s) returned to you after VBS, please mark your name on it.  For any questions, call Vickie Reed @ 251-0154.

VOCATION PRAYER: Jesus, we ask You to bless our parish and all those living their commitment to You as married couples, singles, sisters, priests, deacons and brothers.  We pray that our young people may know their vocation and respond with enthusiasm and generosity of spirit.  Increase the faith life of our parish and strengthen our family life.  Bless our parish with many vocations.  Grant, Lord, that faithfully sharing Your mission in this life, we may come together to share Your eternal life in heaven. NEWS FROM CATECHITICAL MINISTRY

CM TEACHERS NEEDED.  If you have a love for children and a desire to share your faith, Catechetical Ministry is in need of teachers for our fall session.  Currently, we are looking for a 3rd grade teacher for Wednesday classes and a 5th grade co-teacher for Saturday classes, as well as aides for both Wednesdays and Saturdays.  We are also in need of a 6th grade teacher (facilitator) and High School Confirmation I facilitators (the facilitators are members of a core team that present to a smaller group).  This is a big commitment and we ask you to please give it prayerful consideration. CM will train you.  Please keep in mind, all volunteers now need to meet the following criteria in addition to being trained by CM:  all must be fingerprinted, a Diocesan application completed to be kept on file, and an online Safe Environment Workshop, mandated by the Diocese must be completed. If you are interested, please call 251-0154 and leave a message.  Although the CM Office is closed until August 15th, we will be checking for messages through the summer and will contact you for an interview when we return.  All fingerprint appointments must be set up through the CM Office and the Safe Environment Workshop information will be given when you come in to set up your appointment.  The entire process may sound complicated, but is really very simple and well worth the effort.  We look forward to hearing from you.

TEENS RETREAT – U.n.I. Lord Teen Group (high school) presents a 13-hour overnight retreat from Friday evening, July 25th, at 8:00 P.M. until Saturday morning, July 26th, at 9:00 A.M.  Cost is $10.00.  Reserve your space now by calling Sharron Hollenbeck @ 251-0154.  Come join us on a journey of discovery!
