SECOND COLLECTION TODAY FOR ST. VICTOR’S DEVELOPMENT FUND

Today’s second collection is for St. Victor’s Development Fund.  This fund assists with the never-ending repairs and projects on the parish grounds.  Thank you for your generous support.

Please give a warm St. Victor’s welcome to Father Michael Hendrickson and Father Paul-Cuong Phan as they begin to celebrate Masses with us here at St. Victor’s.  A formal reception will be held for both priests sometime in the fall, when Father Michael is installed as pastor.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

Life Insurance Gifts

It is easy to turn an old life insurance policy into a nice gift to St. Victor’s Parish, and a possible tax deduction.  Simply transfer it to, “The Roman Catholic Bishop, a California Corporate Sole, for the benefit of St. Victor’s Parish.”  It is even easier to add the Parish as a beneficiary to a policy.  Because you can always change this, there is no tax deduction for including the Church as a beneficiary.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite, 301, Santa Clara, CA 95950.

The FIESTA Silent Auction is in need of LARGE BASKETS.  Please drop them off at the Rectory Office.

NEED A TAX DEDUCTION? HAVE A USED CAR IN GOOD WORKING ORDER?  Why not donate it to this year’s FIESTA!!!  Please call the Parish Office @ 251-7055.  If we do get a car, we will have a LIVE auction for it prior to the drawing for the RAFFLE prizes.

Fiesta Entertainment – Are you a talented individual or group who would like to be included in this year’s entertainment at St. Victor’s FIESTA?  If so, please call Alice @ 928-1630.  Also, if you know a professional entertainment group, who would be interested in donating their talent to this year’s FIESTA, please call Alice.

Would you like to see your NAME or BUSINESS on display?  Why not sponsor a booth at this year’s FIESTA? For a donation of $120.00 your name/business will be displayed for all to see, while you are helping to defray the cost of booth rentals.  For all the details, please call the Parish Office @ 251-7055.

NEWS FROM CATECHETICAL MINISTRY

CM TEACHERS NEEDED.  If you have a love for children and a desire to share your faith, Catechetical Ministry is in need of teachers for our fall session.  Currently, we are looking for a 3rd grade teacher for Wednesday classes and a 5th grade co-teacher for Saturday classes, as well as aides for both Wednesdays and Saturdays.  We are also in need of a 6th grade teacher (facilitator) and High School Confirmation I facilitators (the facilitators are members of a core team that present to a smaller group).  This is a big commitment and we ask you to please give it prayerful consideration. CM will train you.  Please keep in mind, all volunteers now need to meet the following criteria in addition to being trained by CM:  all must be fingerprinted, a Diocesan application completed to be kept on file, and an online Safe Environment Workshop, mandated by the Diocese must be completed. If you are interested, please call 251-0154 and leave a message.  Although the CM Office is closed until August 15th, we will be checking for messages through the summer and will contact you for an interview when we return.  All fingerprint appointments must be set up through the CM Office and the Safe Environment Workshop information will be given when you come in to set up your appointment.  The entire process may sound complicated, but is really very simple and well worth the effort.  We look forward to hearing from you.

RETREAT – U.n.I. Lord Teen Group (high school) presents a 13-hour overnight retreat from Friday evening, July 25th, at 8:00 P.M. until Saturday morning, July 26th, at 9:00 A.M.  Cost is $10.00.  Reserve your space now by calling Sharron Hollenbeck @ 251-0154.  Come join us on a journey of discovery!  {Please see today’s bulletin insert for all the details.} DEADLINE for registration for this retreat is July 16th.

CATECHETICAL MINISTRY REGISTRATION INFORMATION. Catechetical Ministry (CM) registration will be held Thursday & Friday, September 4th & 5th, from 4:00-8:00 P.M., Saturday, September 6th, from 9:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. and Sunday, September 7th, from 8:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. in the parish center.  All those who will be signing-up their student(s) to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession), First Communion or Confirmation must bring an original or a copy for their child’s BAPTISMAL certificate (it will be returned to you at the time you register).  No child will be registered for a sacrament class without their Baptismal certificate.  Please see the following for information needed to register your student(s) for CM classes on the dates given above.

THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN REGISTERING YOUR STUDENT(S) FOR CATECHETICAL MINISTRY CLASSES IN SEPTEMBER 2008: For those who will be registering young people for our CM program, you will need to complete Emergency/Family Agreement Form(s) for each student attending our program. This form must be completed every year and handed in at the time of registration in August.  For your convenience, you may print the forms from our Website, http://www.parish.stvictor.org/catechism.html . Please scroll down to CM Handbook and open it. The “Emergency Form” AND “Family Agreement Form” are near the end of the handbook.  Print as many as needed for the amount of students you have.  PLEASE be sure you have the following on your Emergency Form:” complete names, addresses and telephone numbers for your student’s dentist, doctor, two Emergency Contacts as well as complete name, address telephone number and working hours for each parent’s employer.  This includes step-parents.”  These forms will also be available at the time you register if you do not have access to a computer.  The Emergency Form/Family Agreement Form is also located as the last page of the handbook.  It is important to note that these forms must be kept current at all times. As with any school, new emergency forms must be filled out each year and kept current throughout the year.  It is no different for our program.  We have found that indeed we needed information from a few of them this past school year and unfortunately found that they were NOT kept current.  This delays the emergency process.  We realize that this form is time consuming, but we ask your cooperation in filling in this information properly and completely, and then presenting it to us at the time you register your student(s) for CM classes.  If you are registering your returning 2nd year student(s) for sacraments (student must have already completed their first basic year of Catechism), please remember to bring their BAPTISMAL certificates, as NO student(s) will be registered without it.  No exceptions will be made.  If you are registering someone else’s student(s) for CM classes (i.e., niece, nephew, grandchild, friend), please remember that you MUST have written permission from the parent to do so.  We cannot register the student without this permission.  This also means, you must make sure that you have the completed Emergency/Family Agreement Forms for these student(s).  Please bring your completed forms with you when you register your student(s) for CM Classes the first weekend in September 2008.

SOCIAL JUSTICE NOTE: To those who would like to make a donation to Catholic Relief Services to assist the victims of the recent typhoon in the Philippines and or the floods in India, checks may be mailed to Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore, Maryland 21203-7070, phone 1-877-HELP-CRS or online @ www.crs.org.  Please keep the victims of these natural disasters, as well as the fire and flood victims here in the U.S., in your prayers.

PRAYER FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE. Lord, our God, when we call to You, You always answer.  We place our hopes and fears in You, knowing that You are always present, we are not afraid.  Protect us from the hatred of others, and keep us safe from the weapons of terrorism.  Do not allow us to be misled by fear.  You desire justice for everyone; enable us to uphold the rights of all.  Give us wisdom to know Your will and make it our own.  Hear our prayers for our men and women in the armed forces, our leaders and our allies.  Guide them with the Spirit of hope and justice as they strive for enduring freedom.  Enfold them and their loved ones in Your gentle care.  Help all of us, even in small ways, to work for justice that will bring true harmony and peace. Amen.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest”
