Christ the King - November 22-23 2008
SECOND
COLLECTION TODAY FOR THE CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT Poverty in America is on the rise – nearly 40 million Americans live below the poverty line. But, we can reverse the trend by rekindling the spirit of community with those in need, by joining in solidarity to break the cycle of poverty. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development supports self-help projects of poor and low-income people working together to improve their lives and their communities. (In our Diocese, several local self-help community-organizing groups have received grants.) Please give generously to CCHD in today’s second collection. Extra envelopes are available in the pews. This Monday, November
24th, we commemorate the 117 Vietnamese Martyrs, who gave their lives
for the Faith, and were canonized in 1988 as Saints of God. Thanksgiving Day - Happy Thanksgiving to One and All!There is so much for which to be thankful for, if only we look to see.
So much, that perhaps we have taken it for granted.
As has been our custom at St. Victor’s, we again ask that non-perishable
food items be brought to Mass on THANKSGIVING DAY, and that they be
presented at the altar during the offertory procession at each
Mass. Your gifts will be accepted by
our St. Vincent de Paul Society volunteers, and put into baskets for
distribution to the needy of our neighborhood throughout the Thanksgiving and
Christmas Holiday seasons. Monetary
donations will also be accepted. Thank you! All parish Offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 27th
& 28th. On
Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 27th), Masses will be celebrated
at 8:00 and 9:30 A.M. IS THERE
SICK AMONG YOU? (JAMES
5:14) Those unable to attend Mass on Sunday or Holy Days because of age or illness may have Holy Communion brought to them by a volunteer Eucharist Minister. Please call Sister Noreen at the parish office @ 251-7055. Our Lady of Guadalupe CelebrationPlease join us on Sunday, December 7th, at the 12:15 P.M. Mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Remember St.
Victor’s Parish In Your Plans
It
is easy to remember St. Victor’s Parish in your estate plans, will, trusts,
insurance policies, or retirement plans. Please
use the following wording: “To the Roman Catholic Bishop of San Jose, a
California Corporation sole, for the benefit of St. Victor’s Parish.” If
you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.
Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: 900 Lafayette St.,

LORD TEENS – BAKE SALE This Sunday, November 23rd, St. Victor’s U.n.I. Lord Teens will be sponsoring their 14th annual BAKE SALE after the 7:00, 8:00, 9:15 and 10:45 A.M. and 12:15 P.M. Masses. All items cost $5.00 each. The teens hold this fundraiser each year to help those in need during the holiday season. {In the past, they have been able to provide holiday meals, groceries for several weeks, new coats or clothing and Christmas toys and decorations for their adopt-a-family.} Thank you in advance for your generous support of St. Victor’s teens. God bless you. Parish
Adult Communal Reconciliation Service All parishioners are invited to an Adult Parish
Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, December 10th, at 7:30 P.M. in
the Church. The service will include
scripture readings, time for reflection and individual confession and
absolution. Come and experience the
sacrament of Reconciliation in the community setting during this season of
Advent. REMINDER: Please
remain in the Church until the end of the service for the communal penance.
Simbang
Gabi MARK YOUR CALENDARS. St.
Victor’s Parish Community will celebrate Simbang Gabi (pre-dawn worship), also
called Misa de Gallo (rooster Mass) from December 16th-24th.
(The schedule will be inserted into the bulletin on December 7th.) OLIVEWOOD HANDCRAFTED ITEMS FROM THE HOLY LAND
will be available to purchase after all Masses the weekend of December 6th
& 7th. The olivewood carving industries has evolved as a cultural
tradition of Christians over many centuries.
Many Holy Land Christians in the Bethlehem area alone rely upon income
generated from this art form, carved by the local craftsmen.
Less than 2% of the population in that area is now Christian, as many
families are now leaving the area to find relief from the difficult conditions
of their homeland. Please help protect this very important culture and industry. BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS for the weekend of November 29th-30th
must be submitted to the Rectory Office by 9:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 25th.
