SECOND COLLECTION TODAY FOR CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES

Our social justice ministry as Catholics and Christians teaches us to reach out to and care for each other.  Our brothers and sisters are all Jesus in Disguise.  The Catholic Relief Services collection puts faith into action with funds from generous Catholics across the United States. These funds support five Catholic organizations (including Operation Rice Bowl) that provide emergency relief, provide legal services for poor immigrants, and promote justice and peace around the world. Thank you for your generosity.

ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL

Growing in Faith Together

As the final weeks of ADA approaches, a group of concerned volunteer parishioners will be telephoning our regular contributors who have not yet responded to this year’s Appeal, beginning next Sunday, March 29th.  If you are called, please respond politely and generously.  For your convenience, you may make your pledge by phone.  It will be confirmed by mail from the Diocese.  MANY THANKS to those who have already pledged.  Please wait for your statements from the Diocese and mail payments directly to them, as the bookkeeping is done there.  Thank you!

VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED for the ADA telephone committee to call our most active parishioners, who have not already given to ADA.  Please call Michelle at the Rectory Office  (251-7055) ASAP, if you are able to help.  If you need it, training will be provided.

ADULT PARISH RECONCILIATION SERVICE

All parishioners are invited to an Adult Parish Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, April 1st, at 7:30 P.M. in the Church.  During this service, we will gather together as a parish family to celebrate God’s mercy and forgiveness.  The service will include Scripture readings, time for reflection and individual confession and absolution.

ADULT CONFIRMATION

Sign-ups are being taken for the ADULT Confirmation classes (age 18 and older, who have already been baptized and have had First Eucharist).  Please register for the classes through the Rectory Office @ 251-7055.  The classes will be held April 20th-May 18th.  The sacrament of Confirmation will take place on May 31st, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral.  Registration deadline is Monday, March 30th.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

Jump Into Our Pool!

Did you know that you can join the Diocese of San Jose Pooled Income Fund? You can earn a nice income, avoid capital gains taxes and nail down a tax deduction by doing this.  When you no longer need the income, your gift can go directly to St. Victor’s Parish.

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: 900 Lafayette St., Suite 301, Santa Clara, CA 95050.

Come Back To Me With All Your Heart

Lent is a special time. We take time to look more closely at God and God looks at us.  How can we take even minor steps to get closer to God during these forty days?  There are three traditional practices that the Church puts before us to help us forget self and follow Christ more closely. These practices are: prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

The most perfect prayer we have is the Mass. Join with others at the 6:30 or 8:00 A.M. Mass during the weekdays (Monday-Friday) of Lent.  And/or join us on Friday evenings for Stations of the Cross at 7:30 P.M. in the Church.

Fasting asks us to let go of habits that get in the way of our ability to love God and others.  The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence for everyone 14 years or older.  That means NO MEAT.  GOOD FRIDAY will be a day of fast and abstinence.  That means ONLY ONE FULL MEAL for those 18-59 and NO MEAT for anyone 14 years or older.  The faithful should not excuse themselves lightly from these observances.

Through almsgiving (ADA Appeal, Special Collections, Operation Rice Bowl – Catholic Relief Services, Eastside F.I.S.H., St. Vincent de Paul) we come to see others as God sees them, worthy of our love and sharing.

Lenten Reminders: All the faithful, after they have participated in First Communion, are obliged to share in Communion at least once a year during the Easter season (First Sunday of Lent until Trinity Sunday).  The faithful who are old enough to understand that they have sinned are obligated to confess serious sins at least once a year.  It is recommended that venial sins also be confessed.

LEGION OF MARY ANNUAL ACIES

Acies is an individual and collective renewal of consecration to our Blessed Mother. Every year, all active and auxiliary members of the Legion of Mary renew their consecration to their Queen.  Families and friends are welcome.  This year’s Acies will be held at Resurrection Church (725 Cascade Dr., Sunnyvale) on Saturday, March 28th.  The rosary and consecration starts at 11:00 A.M., followed by Mass at 12:00 noon.  Refreshments will be served in the Resurrection Parish Hall after the Mass.

Shared Scripture Study

The evening session of Shared Scripture meets on Thursdays at 7:30 P.M.  We meet in the large room of the parish center (the library).  In union with the Church’s, “Year of St. Paul,” we will begin reading his letter to the Philippians.  Come join us and get to know St. Paul in his own words.

PILGRIMAGE TO OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE & GUADALAJARA
You are invited to come to the meeting regarding information about the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City & Guadalajara from August 17th-24th.  The meeting will be held next Sunday, March 29th, from 2:30-4:00 P.M. in the small room of the parish center.  For further information, please call Father Lim @ 251-7055.

ALTAR SOCIETY FLORAL SERVICE

The Altar Society offers parishioners an opportunity to provide flowers for our Sanctuary as a memorial or tribute gift.  It might be in memory of a deceased loved one, in thanksgiving, or to commemorate a birthday, baptism, marriage, anniversary, etc. In return for a minimum $100.00 gift, the Altar Society will arrange for the floral display on the date(s) specified and will see that an acknowledgment appears in the Parish Bulletin for the corresponding week.  For more information or to order this floral service, please call the Parish Office @ 251-7055.

IMPORTANT USHERS MEETING...

Donations to the Church may be made monthly by credit card or checking account transfers.  Parish Pay is now available at St. Victor’s.  You may access the web site @ www.stvictor.org and click on DONATE or call toll-free @ 1-866-727-4741 and give them the information over the phone.  If you have any questions, you may also call Alice at the Parish Office @ 251-7055.

REMINDERS: The Parish Office closes at 4:00 P.M. on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

We ask that our organizations please make sure that all doors are locked when they have finished their meeting/event.  And, return all keys immediately.
