SECOND COLLECTION TODAY FOR CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County serves 37,000 people each year with 45 various programs.  You can make a difference in the lives of the poor.  Nearly one in four people in Santa Clara County can’t meet their family’s basic needs without help.  They are the working poor, isolated seniors, at-risk youth, children in low-performing schools, caregivers of young children, frail elders, and those suffering from mental illness and addiction.  Together, we can change more lives – for good.  Extra envelopes are available in the pews.

Please make a generous pledge or contribution to Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County at Mass this weekend.  All contributions will support critical services for the poor and vulnerable.  You may use the envelopes in the pews or you may donate online @ www.catholiccharitiesscc.org , or phone 325-5259.  [We welcome and thank the speakers from Catholic Charities, who have come to this weekend’s Masses to explain some of their programs and special needs.]

OUR CHILDREN MODEL YOU…

The children who have just received their First Holy Communion look to you and follow what you do before and after receiving the Eucharist.  They know this is a special and wonderful time and that folding their hands near their heart is a way of showing how special this sacrament is to them.  Because it is so new, sometimes they forget what they are supposed to do and they look to others around them to see what they are doing.  Help us model a respectful and reverent posture when receiving Communion, showing the children that we are aware of the awesome love God has shown in giving His Son to us through the Eucharist.

Special Thanks

The Knights of Columbus would like to THANK all who helped with or donated items for the Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet.  For those who attended, we hope that you enjoyed your time and celebration with us.  A SPECIAL THANK YOU to the members of the St. Victor’s Knights of Columbus Council 4112 for hosting this event.

“Dear Friends,

On behalf of the children served by GET ON THE BUS, thank you for your generous gift of $1,640.00, that unites children with their parent in prison.  We are deeply grateful for your sponsorship of this special work.

The best way to express the good that your gift helps to bring about is through the voice of children who benefit from your generosity.  These lines are taken from a letters sent to parents: ‘My mom drew a picture of her hand and told me that whenever I miss her, I should put my hand on her hand.’ Gina, age 8. ‘I noticed things about my mother: she was pretty and she looked like me.  I found something in common with all the children on the bus.  They have a mother in prison too.’ Natasha, age 7.

Thank you for your compassionate response, for your generous giving and for partnering with us in this important ministry of hope and healing for children.”                                                                   Maria Palmer, Program Director

Check it out! - GET ON THE BUS was also written-up in the May issue of Good Housekeeping Magazine.
