28th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Vocation Awareness Sunday - October 10-11, 2009
From
the Pastor’s Pen
Well, these were the two most dangerous bases I used to visit in the heart of the "Badlands," the province of Nuristan. Now they are rubble. A scary day for the U.S. Army but a hard-fought victory by a unit that prevailed with half its soldiers dead or wounded against a Taliban force several times their size. Go Army Cavalry! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,559741,00.html
God bless,
Fr. Michael SPECIAL
COLLECTIONS THIS WEEKEND Given the massive destruction that has befallen Manila and other parts of the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia in the aftermath of Typhoon Ketsana as well as earthquake and tsunami victims in Samoa, Tonga and Indonesia, the Diocese has authorized a collection for all these victims. This special Catholic Relief Services collection will be taken up this weekend here at St. Victor’s. In cooperation with St. Mary’s in Gilroy, St. Victor’s will also be collecting clothing, shoes and blankets for the Philippines. Boxes will be available in the vestibule for your donations of these items this weekend only. If you have any questions, please phone Jolene from St. Mary’s @ 656-0074. October
– Month of the Rosary
October is
the month dedicated to the Blessed Mother and the Rosary.
The Rosary is the beautiful prayer to Mary, the Mother of
Jesus. In saying the full 20 decades, we are reliving the life of
Jesus and realizing how much Mary was part of the joy and suffering He
endured. The Rosary brings
us closer to God and gives us strength to persevere in doing the right
thing. Pray a daily family
Rosary asking God’s help through the intercession of Mary, the
patroness of our country. Praying
together would do much to unite families and help them to become more
loving, caring and helpful to others.
Pope John Paul II had said, “The Rosary is a way of
contemplating the face of Christ through Mary’s eyes.
I want to suggest therefore, that people, families and
Christian communities pray the Rosary.”
REMEMBER – The
Rosary is recited Monday through Saturday after the 8:00 A.M. Mass.
Please feel free to join us! PILGRIM VIRGIN STATUE VISITATION – Would you like to have the Pilgrim Virgin statue visit your house? One of the Legion of Mary’s works is to propagate the praying of the Rosary by bringing the Virgin statue to families who request it. For more info and/or to request the statue, please call the Parish Office @ 251-7055. All
parish offices will be closed on Monday, October 12th, in
observance of Columbus Day. Mass
