First Friday Adoration and Mass - November 6th

The priest says at each Mass, “Behold the Lamb of God,” an echo of what John the Baptist said to two of his disciples as Jesus walked by.  When the disciples began to follow Jesus, they asked Him, “Where do you live?” and He replied, ”Come and see.” (Jn 1:39NJB)  This is an invitation to YOU today.  Jesus is present Body and Soul, Blood and Divinity at every Catholic Mass and also in Tabernacles throughout the world.

We are privileged to have Jesus in the Holy Eucharist exposed in St. Victor’s Chapel every First Friday of the month from after the 8:00 A.M. Mass on Friday until the 8:00 A.M. Mass on Saturday.  First Friday Mass is celebrated at 7:30 P.M. in the Church.

PLANNED GIVING NOTES

Retirement Plans – Use ‘Em Or Lose ‘Em

Did you know that retirement plan assets are part of your estate?  They also have never been taxed as income.  The IRS loves these plans, because they can get two bites instead of one! This can reduce their value to your heirs by up to 70%!

If you want to know more about this, the Diocese can provide free assistance.  Call Robert Serventi @ 983-0168, or write to him at: Diocese of San Jose, The Chancery, 1150 N. First St., Suite 100, San Jose, CA 95112-4966.

THANK YOU AND REMINDER

We would like to THANK our parishioners for their generosity and participation in the Annual Diocesan Appeal and the Capitol Campaign. We encourage you to continue to fulfill your pledges, as any funds collected over the Diocesan goals will be returned to St. Victor’s.  These funds need to be mailed to their offices by December 15th, as they will be closing their books.

Father Lim’s Trip to the Philippines in November 2010

You are cordially invited to come to an informational meeting regarding a trip to the Philippines from November 2-16, 2010. The meeting will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009 from 2:30-4:30 P.M. in the small room of the parish center.  [During this trip, we will have the opportunity to visit churches, cultural sites and enjoy the beaches of places such as Cebu, Bohol and Palawan.  In addition we shall visit Manila, Cebu, Davao, Tagaytay and Corregidor.]  For any other questions, please contact Father Lim @ 928-1633.

Catechetical Ministry Holiday Fund-raiser

Delicious Great American Fund Raising Candy, Gift and Gift Wrap order packets are available in the CM and Rectory Offices.  This fund-raiser supports the religious education programs for all St. Victor’s school age children.  Deadline for orders is Monday, November 2nd.  IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: Orders must be picked-up on Wednesday, December 2nd, from 3:00-9:00 P.M. in the parish hall.

PLEASE NOTE: Thank you for all the clothing donations for Catholic Relief Services disaster assistance.  The clothing drive was for one weekend only a few weeks ago.  Please do not leave any more clothing in the vestibule, the shipments have already been sent, and we have no storage area for these items here at Church. The vestibule needs to be as clear as possible for the gatherings at funerals, weddings and other activities.

Please come in, have a seat and participate more fully at Mass if there is room in a pew.  The inside of the Church was recently painted (thanks to your donations) and the walls are already showing wear and scuff marks.  Please help us keep God’s house neat and clean.  Thanks for your cooperation!

NEWS FROM THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The next Knights of Columbus Officers’ Meeting will be held on Thursday, November 5th, at 7:30 P.M. in Room 7 of the School.

The Knights of Columbus will be recruiting for new members after all Masses next weekend.  Please feel free to stop by and ask them any questions that you may have.

Donations to the Church may be made monthly by credit card or checking account transfers.  Parish Pay is now available at St. Victor’s.  You may access the web site @ www.stvictor.org and click on DONATE or call toll-free @ 1-866-727-4741 and give them the information over the phone.  If you have any questions, you may also call the Parish Office @ 251-7055.

DAY OF THE DEAD – We remember deceased family members and friends in a special way on November 2nd, (All Souls Day).  In countries of Hispanic and/or Latin cultures, this day is known as the “Day of the Dead.”  It is an important and festive celebration that views death as the entryway to eternal life as promised by Christ – death is a natural extension of life, where deceased members continue to live.  The festivities demonstrate a respect for the sanctity of life, as well as a strong belief in the communion of saints. [Other various cultural observances/practices regarding similar rituals are in the latest issue of The Valley Catholic on page 21.]

“Follow the saints, because those who follow them will become saints.” (Clement I)
